As little girls, we are told that we stand on “steely shoulders.” The shoulders of strong, faithful, and courageous women who looked out for everyone in order to survive. In Dr Andrea D Sullivan’s new book, “The Sacrifices of Superwomen: It’s More Than Enough,” she reminds us that we have grown “sick and tired of being sick and tired.” Too many Black women are on the front lines saving everyone but themselves. They’re super-givers who neglect themselves. Oh, they see their doctors, but they don’t really get better. Dr Sullivan believes that to save our community and our country, we have to save ourselves. Drawing on 34 years of practice as a naturopathic physician, she knows the stresses and problems that Black women face and the health issues we must face. Enough is more than a self-help “practical tool kit,” it’s about charting a new narrative to save ourselves in order to save our nation

DR. ANDREA D. SULLIVAN PhD, ND, DHANP

Dr. Andrea D. Sullivan is a trailblazer in every sense of the word, being the first African American woman to receive a PhD in sociology/ criminology from the University of Pennsylvania and the first African American woman to receive a degree in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University. She is a licensed naturopathic physician with 36 years of experience. A dynamic and inspiring lecturer, author, TV and radio guest. Most recently, she received an honorary Doctor of Science degree from Sonoran University (formerly Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine). She is passionate about the effects of racism on the health and wellbeing of our society.
Understanding the unique challenges faced by African American women, Dr. Andrea Sullivan offers a fresh perspective on how to break free from the cycle of self-neglect. The Sacrifices of Superwomen: Natural Remedies to Restore Balance is not just about physical health, but also about mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

The Sacrifices of Superwomen: Natural Remedies to Restore Balance is intended to provide encouragement, guidance, education and support for creating healthy habits for women, and especially women of color who die younger and faster than others. It is intended to show how being a superwoman has negative health effects, and the steps needed to create different habits which will lead to a better quality of life and improved health outcomes.
Examining the stresses of everyday life, of protecting, guiding and nurturing others, from diets/foods, and from racist and discriminatory behaviors, Dr Sullivan explains how women have succumbed to low self -esteem, poor self – worth, and negative thought patterns, resulting in poor nutritional and life-style habits. This reality is coupled with, among other detriments, job discrimination and single parenting, a combination of disaster. She uses the Sojourner Syndrome, which references Sojourner Truth and her struggles with the abhorrent institution of slavery, suffering inordinate abuse and heartache, and subsequent racism and sexism, to deliver her conversation about how Superwomen emerged and is maintained.
The modern-day Superwomen referenced in the book, using Naturopathic and Homeopathic medicine, the tenets regarding nutrition (especially the use of milk, and sugar and the drinking of water), the information on Sleep, Meditation and Exercise, made changes in their habits and began the journey toward a healthy lifestyle. “Superwomen” lets us know that there are habits we can create to save ourselves. Small steps taken consistently can create radical transformations.
The inspiring stories of real-life superwomen, and the lifestyle changes they made, are the focus of this thought-provoking book which is perfect for anyone seeking to reflect on their own lifestyle choices and priorities. Experience the power of self-discovery and be motivated by the bravery and strength of these courageous women.
Don't wait another day to start prioritizing your own health and well-being. Order your copy of The Sacrifices of Superwomen: Natural Remedies to Restore Balance by Dr. Andrea D. Sullivan, PhD, ND, DHANP and join the movement of Superwomen who are taking control of their lives and achieving optimal health.
